Steven B. Warren (Board Director) received his master's of social science work from Columbia School of Social Work and Social Administration in 1986. He served as the Services for the Underserved Executive Director until 2001, when he was disabled with porphyria caused by agent orange poisoning during his two tours of Vietnam.

In addition to being responsible for the overall management of SUS, he helped to spearhead Managed Care Innovations, Inc., a consortium of 13 mental health care institutions. Prior to his appointment as SUS' Executive Director, Mr. Warren was employed at the Project Return Foundation as a Program Planner. He has served as the New York City Regional Director of the Association for Community Living (formerly ACHAIMH) and as president of this statewide residential mental health provider organization. Appointed by Governor Cuomo to the New York State Mental Health Services Council, he served two terms from 1996-1998.

Steven lives in Babylon, NY with his wife Nancy and has two children.


Valerie Reyes-Jimenez (Member) is a National AIDS activist and spokesperson. Valerie served on President Clinton's Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS and is a recognized expert and advocate in the field. She applies her skills and experiences obtained over the years to enhance the lives of others like herself who are living with HIV and AIDS; particularly in the fields of homelessness, addiction, public benefits and event organizing. As well as providing direct representation, planning and consulting services in the areas of advocacy, public policy, grassroots organizing and lobbying. Ms. Jimenez has worked closely with HASA and is well known by our other major funders. Ms. Jimenez was our Keynote Speaker at the Praxis AIDS Day which drew a large number of participants. Valerie will be extremely helpful as a client representative on the Board and as an advocate for our Clients in New York.


Steven Brown (Member) was elected President and CEO of the Greyston in June of 2004. Steven has been a member of Greyston's Board since 1998, and brings to Greyston extensive experience in housing and community development, foundation leadership and organizational management.

Prior to coming to Greyston, Steven was acting CEO of the New York Housing Partnership, and organization where, from 1983-1998, he served as Director and then Vice President of the Housing Partnership's Homeownership and Retail Development Programs. From 1998 to 2004, Steven served as President of the Jackie Robinson Foundation, a national foundation that provides scholarships, mentoring, and career and academic support to promising minority college students.

Steven's goals for Greyston include working with Greyston's partners to increase economic opportunities for people in Yonkers, and enhancing the sustainability of Greyston's efforts to deliver services to its many constituencies. In addition to serving on Greyston's Board, Steven is a director of the Edwin Gould Foundation, the Community Services Society, Praxis Housing, and Wise Services.

A graduate of Harvard University, Steven resides in White Plains with is wife Karen and two children.


Charlie Garcia (Member) is a native of Cuba. He started playing baseball at a very early age, traveling all over Cuba. Charlie then went to the private school, Brother De La Salle, eventually moving to New York City in 1955.

Charlie pursued his dream of playing professional baseball in the Pacific Coast League as a catcher. Once Charlie decided to retire from baseball, he began working in the restaurant industry starting as a busboy at Patricia Murphy in Brooklyn Heights. Knowing he needed to learn more about the industry, Charlie then studied the business in Paris. Once Charlie returned to New York, he immersed himself in every aspect of the restaurant industry by purchasing the Jane Davis Restaurant in Manhattan which he also managed. He then got married and moved to Westchester where he started a family, eventually opening two restaurants of his own, Charlie’s Ranch and The Old Dutch Mill. After establishing himself as a successful restaurateur, Charlie then moved to Binghamton NY where he became Executive Chef supervising 3 hotels, more than doubling the profit in just one year. Charlie has served several presidents along the way, including Gerald Ford. For his service, he was awarded the key to the city of Binghamton by Mayor Alfred J. Libous in 1979.

Then it was back to New York City as Executive and Supervising Chef for The Red Coach Grill chain and later with the WR Grace Company where Charlie oversaw the opening of 120 California-styled Mexican restaurants called El Torito.

Charlie currently resides in Westchester County where he enjoys spending time with his 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren Brandon, Tyler, and Maddie.


John A. Lombardo, CPA (Treasurer) received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Bernard M. Baruch College and his MBA in Finance from Wagner College, where he is currently a Professor of Accounting. John began his career as an Auditior for Coopers & Lybrand and transferred to the tax department where he prepared tax returns for high net worth individuals. He then went on to work for Price Waterhouse in a similar capacity. He has spent most of his career working in the family offices of some very prominent New York families. At present, John operates his own CPA practice, with offices in New York City and Staten Island, directing and advising clients on all financial, investment, and tax related matters.


Michael E. Katz, Esq. (Member), received his bachelor's degree at University of Massachusetts at Amherst (B.A. 1975) and later studied at the Boston University School of Law (J.D. 1978). He has been admitted to the Bar of the States of New York, Connecticut and Georgia, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

After practicing law for nearly five years in Massachusetts, Michael moved to New York where he has worked at his own law firm for the past 25 years. Michael currently resides in South Salem, NY and enjoys gardening.


Persio Reyes (Member) is originally from the Dominican Republic and has lived in the US for the past 24 years and of those 24 years, all have been spent in New York. Persio has been married for 12 years and has two daughters with another girl on the way. Persio attended the City College of New York located in uptown Manhattan right in the middle of a Dominican\Spanish Harlem community; an extraordinary experience that significantly shaped Persio's perspective of life. From that point forward, Persio began to understand the importance of giving back to the community. Persio coached various basketball teams for the Dominican Youth Union; a program that was designed to keep youngsters off the street. This program was extremely successful. Persio was a very active community organizer within the City College community and successfully help those whom he supported win both the Day and Graduate student governments.

Persio graduated with a BA (Dual Major) in Economics and Management and Administration from the City College of New York. Persio recently completed his MBA with a specialization in Information Management from the University of Phoenix. Persio has over 14 years of experience in the Information Technology Industry and have worked at all levels of the aforementioned industry; from helpdesk at City College to Director of IT Ops in a City Government agency and now a Global Manager (Vice President) for Desktop Services for a major investment bank.
